Why Propane?

It's a question many folks have asked, millions worldwide are using propane to make their lives more comfortable. Of course, that's not surprising, afterall the advantages of propane are tough to beat. Propane is an environmentally friendly choice you can make today, because propane burns cleaner, works harder, and operates smarter, choosing propane means you can help reduce greenhouse emissions, save energy, and protect the environment.

Propane is the fuel of choice for over 250,000 homes, farms, business and industrial customers in Minnesota. Propane has been widely used for years and has always been a clean air fuel. So ‘Why use Propane’? Let’s look at some of the reasons:

Propane is a US produced product. The United States is a net exporter of propane and this helps our country be more energy self-sufficient.

  • 91% of the original energy source for propane reaches the end user compared to only 31.5 for electricity.
  • Propane is not a greenhouse gas, is not toxic, non-caustic or corrosive and is truly environmentally friendly.
  • Propane is portable. From grilling, to camping to serving remote locations with heat, light and production of power, propane is the right choice.
  • Autogas (propane used as an automobile fuel) is the most widely used alternative fuel in the world.
  • Propane used to power commercial lawn mowers can reduce harmful emissions by 40 % or more as compared to gasoline and diesel powered equipment.

Did you know propane has been widely used for many years and has always been a clean air fuel? Propane is not a greenhouse gas, is non toxic, non caustic and tuly environmentally friendly. Electricity is often touted as a clean fuel and can be, however, when measuring efficiency and carbon emissions from the source of the energy all the way to the end user, propane is the 'clean air' choice. Consider the following information when you are making your energy choice:

  • 91% of the original energy source for propane reaches the end user (home, business or farm).

  • Only 31.5% of the original energy used to produce electricity reaches the end user.
  • 68.5% of all energy used to produce electricity is lost to conversion, plant use, transmission and distribution.
  • 68.8% of all electricity used in our country is produced from coal, natural gas amd other petroleum products.
  • only 10.5% of our nations electricty is produced from renewal resources. Of this renewable energy, 75% is produced by hydro-electric power plants.
  • Electric water heaters produce 2 1/2 times the carbon emissions of propane water heaters.
